FLOWERS

I’ve painted flowers for as long as I can remember, continuously exploring and pushing the boundaries of abstraction within this subject.

Each piece evolves from simple inspirations - flowers picked from a spring garden and placed in a beloved vase on the kitchen table, window boxes overflowing with ranunculus and pelargoniums, or spring bulbs growing in glass jars. Sometimes, it’s the sight of large hydrangeas illuminated by strong light, casting deep shadows that capture my attention.

My colour palette is often influenced by fleeting moments - weekend getaways, the vibrant facades of buildings or boats, details glimpsed in shop windows, or the intricate patterns on café tiles where I’ve emjoyed a good coffee.

At times, I wonder if the flowers are metaphors for people, friends, or emotions I’m processing. The vases may symbolise safety, harbour, and nurturing, while a fallen petal might represent the passage of time. Whether it’s a good day or bad, these moments- like the petals - remind me that everything is transient. This too shall pass.
