Moments from travel and everyday life distilled into light, colour and space. Paintings that hold both memory and atmosphere.
A shady corner of Monet’s garden in Giverny, the cool of a French river in August, the vibrant colours of a seaweed-filled rockpool in Pembrokeshire. Lying in a hammock in Australia watching golden light flicker through swaying palms, or standing barefoot beside a Cornish harbour as rigging clatters and salty air fills my lungs.
These are the moments that stay with me.

Sometimes they are captured in quick watercolour sketches or photographs; others are simply absorbed and stored somewhere in my sensory memory. Back in the studio, I’m not trying to recreate a particular landscape. Instead, fragments return: a colour, the quality of light, the sensation of heat or water, a glimpse of blue sky or the mystery of a shaded corner.
Through painting, those memories shift and change. Place becomes colour, gesture and atmosphere; what actually happened becomes less important than the sensation that remains.
These paintings are not records of where I have been. They are attempts to hold onto how it felt to be there.
