Contemporary Still Life 23/8
This one-day workshop explores how to capture everyday objects in a bold, abstracted style. Working with fruit, vases, and cut flowers, you’ll simplify forms to their essential shapes, focusing on suggestion rather than detail.
Experiment with expressive mark-making, dynamic colour combinations, and mixed materials to bring energy and depth to your work.
Use collage and mark-making to break down shapes and add spontaneity to your compositions.
Explore the interplay of light and shadow to create atmosphere and balance in your paintings.
Through guided exercises and demonstrations, you’ll work with charcoal, pastel, paint and collage, taking inspiration from artists such as Matisse, Ivon Hitchens, and the Bloomsbury Group. The day will encourage creative freedom, helping you loosen up your approach and develop a more instinctive way of painting.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking for fresh inspiration, this workshop will give you new tools to explore abstraction in still life.
